Andrey, Kseniya and Wolf travel across the Collar of Worlds to defeat evil gods and monsters. Also Andrey has a magic sword that he received from Koschel the Immortal! This sword hides incredible power--and what’s more, IT CAN TALK! Let’s see if it helps our heroes defeat the dreadful and terrible Minotaur!
I found this book by sheer accident and i’ve been enjoying it immensely so far. Bubble Comics for those that don’t know is Russia’s largest comic book publisher, according to their website. Now i’d love to read more of their stuff but I don’t have access to them or first issues to get me started. I think it’s amazing for a number of reasons among them is that it doesn’t matter what country you are from comic books are comic books. They all take the same effort, love and determination to make and in similar styles.
The originality and creativity on display here comes from a different culture and a different point of view. One thing is certain is that history is history and the Minotaur is a universally known being. Now our trio needs to take out this godlike being, and he is because we saw him be created by the villain using Ichor than be abandoned because he went from celestial to bestial. I think these guys do an incredible job writing this, from the way it’s structured to how it flows and the reveals that come when the need to are extremely well done. I really am enjoying getting the chance to see these characters engage with each other and use their abilities to their fullest.
Anna and Anastasiya do some really nice work on the interiors. Yeah i’d like more backgrounds but we do see them used well. The Minotaur and the trio are well represented and the way angles and perspective are used alongside the page layouts is nicely done. The sense of movement, style and panache they bring to the characters through their powers and the huge reveal is a marvelous thing to see.
Andrey finally uses his sword that he’s been communicating with. I won’t say anything more about it but there’s a reason he’s been afraid of it and apparently rightfully so. It’s both amazing and terrifying to see in action and I can’t wait for more! The potential that unleashed in this story makes me quiver in anticipation.
I’m thrilled to be introduced to some great Russian comics and their language, culture and way of life. The more I see the more I want and the story is great because we are seeing three very different individuals working together for their own reasons and have to learn to have each other’s back. It’s either that or die. It’s a well crafted, solid comic be on the lookout for Bubble Comics folks!
