Well here we are with the second issue, just a quick recap our trio of heroes jump from world to world fighting evil and the wrongs that occur there. It’s like a evil is an infection and they are the triage unit sent in to eradicate the disease. Oh and Andrey has this sentient sword, Koscehi’s all-powerful one, that he doesn’t like to use and Wolf is jealous because he trained and killed a lot of people to get it but wasn’t chosen in favour of Andrey.
I like how things open up here with the Master and his people performing an experiment. The result of which is why the trio comes here but that’s for later. I’d like to know how the Master and his crew got a hold of some Ichor because that’s literally the fluid that runs through a god's veins like blood does ours. Depending on the lore it either is or isn't’ compatible with humans oh and have I mentioned I love this?! I mean here we are thinking of the blood of gods and how it interacts with humans so Roman and Evgeniy are definitely doing it the right way.
Well an argument for both sides of the coin can be made here on the Ichor matter. But regardless what we see and learn is much more valuable. Namely that the Master is a coward and runs away from his projects, see messes, when they don’t turn out the way he wants them to. Nice bit of between the lines characterisation. Actually the characterisation throughout this book is extremely well done. Through dialogue, narration and actions we get to learn a lot about those whom we see in these pages. I’m thrilled by that too because the more I read here the more I want to read about them.
Anna’s interiors are really well done too. Just a quick thanks for no nose ring here too it’s better off without. The way the page layouts are utilised with their angles and perspective are very well done. Yes i’d like to see more backgrounds but i’m of that school that feels like they enhance the scenes, moments and area’s in which they are used. Still the imagination and creativity on display is wonderful to see.
I’m not sure what I was expecting coming into this but it has the elements I like from the Dungeons & Dragons aspect but it’s mixed with the science fiction genre to create this whole aesthetic that makes it more unique and interesting. Like if Sliders were a trio of somewhat powered folks traveling to different realities that had Game of Thrones style cities on the outskirts of which were things like Minotaurs. Chasing after the big bad who leaves unholy messes in his wake when he can’t control them or find a use them.
I am very much enjoying the central cast of characters and seeing more of them outside of combat situations and how they interact with one another. Allies, seemingly, friends well not quite but that’s the real fun here they’ve got to have each other’s backs fighting these anomalies but that doesn’t mean they have like each other right? This is one of those series that I think breaks genre rules and that’s entertaining as all get out.
