A new team of super-powered heroes has emerged, and they want David Powell to use his telekinetic powers to help them make a better world. First, they have to kill Lorena Payan, the head of Foresight Corporation, and David's wife, Astrid, is protecting her. The man destined to become the superhero known as Noble is about to face his greatest conflict.
What Brandon is managing to do here is pretty damn good. I mean getting to write the adventures of brand spanking new hero is something most folks only dream of. That we are seeing him emerge into a world where superheroes have never existed before and getting to set new standards a new world and a new hope well he’s doing something absolutely amazing. I love the backstory here and how we have gone on this journey of not only awakening with no memory but to see that return, his wife become a key player in all this and just the sheer amount of characterisation here is an utter delight.
Through it all Lorena has her hands in this and she’s the one to watch out for, not the quiet one. She is a master manipulator who has grand designs upon power the likes of which pale in all comparison to whatever it is you can possibly imagine. She is what Lex Luthor wishes he were and that’s beyond compare truly one of the most scary creations and people that have ever been introduced in comics.
After the way that we are introduced to a new team of super-powered beings it leaves me wanting to know more about them. How they were created and why, by whom all that because they seem to be this radical group without care of human life. While I cannot claim them to be heroes or villains they are full of intriguing qualities that I cannot wait to see more of. Throughout the issue it seems that they play an important role and that we should see more of them as time and various series progress. After all Lorena appears in more than just this one and they do seem to want her.
Roger and Paul do some very exciting work of their own on the interiors here. I am enjoying the attention to detail in what we see. From people, and a nice solid base of human anatomy, their expressions are very well done. I like this more traditional comic book style of work that we see here. While page layouts with their angles and perspective demonstrate a nice eye for storytelling I also appreciate the strong use of backgrounds here. With the colours and the work that we see this is how you get readers excited to read the story.
Brandon does a really nice job with the way he structures this story. The ebb & flow is nicely done so that the story is highlighted and the action we see only makes the story stronger instead of feeling obligatory. That kind of cohesion is what makes for the kind of strong storytelling most people take for granted and don’t think about. So that Brandon can do that here with seaming ease is a great attribute to possess. That alongside with being able to bring these characters to life through dialogue, personality and characterisation makes him one of those writers you need to be paying attention to right now.
Lion Forge has gone and done something that hasn’t been successfully done in a very long time. They’ve managed to create a new universe from scratch found the right formula to actually make it work in the way it’s supposed to by fuelling the mind and imagination with awe and wonder and leaving unlimited possibilities left to unfold. Bravo.
