This book gets more trippy with each issue. I mean it’s completely out there from conception to it’s execution we’ve seen science fiction melded with the supernatural to make this wild journey possible in ways that are creatively unique and mind blowing. Chris has been given a platform to let loose his imagination to create creatures/beings that definitely thrill and terrify you as a reader and really helps make this even better than it is. These frog things we see yeah a prime example of that.
With the end of last issue being what it was and now seeing Nameless and Sophia going through what they are it’s a huge thing where you think what part of this is real? We are getting some of the most interesting and fantastic characterization happening here but I still sit here look and read what’s on the page and can’t help but try to put two and two together without continuing to get 5. Though I have to tell ya there is some dynamite narration happening here too and bit cheeky but actually chuckle out loud stuff and if you aren’t careful it’ll be raining men!
That Nameless is as good as he is and inherently knowing that something isn’t right while he’s experiencing what he is kind of gives you hope for him, not much but some. Of all the people on that mission why is only Sophia left with him? Granted her father is the one who funded this mission though as we’ve previously seen the man isn’t a man anymore he’s got that disease/monster attachment thing going on making him well incredibly dangerous and psychotic. So why he/they/it wants Xibalba and what’s inside it well that reveal is something i’m still looking forward to.
Got to give Chris credit here for the pages where perspective is used so admirably. That huge entrance where they seem like ants in their suits was really spectacular. It makes you wonder what the hell is so large that it needed something this big to be created in the first place and then of course you see all this gunk on the sides and connecting across the opening and it kind of gives ya the heebie jeebies. On a side note create a whole deck of those Tarot cards you could make a fortune at conventions with em!
Okay so then we get kind of to the end of the issue and again you’ve got too many questions in your head about what really happened, what has happened and what will. Nameless has these abilities and dreams of the future right he can do things people normally can’t so what can we trust about this being the truth? I’m not sure we can and that’s half the fun because the more you wonder and think about it then kind of obsess on it you have to know and that guarantees you’re coming back for the next issue.
Last page pin-up can I have that please because it’s so very Crossed with the end of the world asteroid scenario that’s just wow. Plus the cop thing kind yeah that’s the part that sticks with me.
Grant is like no one else on Earth and what he can do with words, ideas and concepts is simply amazing. Bizarre, fascinating, utterly compelling this should be on the lips of everyone and on top of the next awards list!
