The 2nd great war is almost over. The allies are closing in the Nazis. A desperate Hitler is rumoured to have something up his sleeve. The allies aren't completely sure what it is. They send 3 spies that go by the code name Harpies to figure out what is it. The Harpies stumble upon tip that an occultist name Johanna is Hitler's new weapon. Now, they just have to figure out what it is that Johanna is capable of before its too late.
It has been a while since I’ve had the pleasure to review a book from Evoluzione. They are a small/indie press company and they have an array of very solid books so when Marcel asked me to review this one, it was an automatic yes from me. As a small publisher and full of men I might add we’re going to see some rather exaggerated top heavy women. It can be a little sigh creating but that’s ok because I get it, I’d like to see equal opportunity being shown but alas. So I really enjoyed this, I mean what’s not to enjoy about a Charlie’s Angels-esque type book where they fight Nazi’s?
I do like the way this book is structured and how the opening we see is explained so in the long run of things it makes complete sense. I will say this while everyone is seemingly speaking English I think it would behove to have that box which says “translated from X” to make a little more believable for what we’re seeing. Still I have to admit the opening had me and made me want to see more of Rose and how she fits into all this. So Marcel is doing a sensational job making sure the interest factor is not only here but also strong in the force he is.
The cameo appearances that we see look a lot like Nixon and Kennedy and if that’s who they are oh I am totally on board with seeing them again and learning more about how they would possibly fit into all this. Or if this is a coincidence, well actually there are no such things as coincidences, well then sorry I brought it up, not sorry. I’m not going to talk about the meat of the issue, except for this oh my effin god thank you for the son, looking and behaving like this and making a lot more grossly sexualised than I could have anticipated or hoped for!
The interior artwork is nicely done and I love that there is such attention to detail in what we see. The linework is fantastic and how we see the varying weights utilised this way really brings the character to life. The imagination and creativity that we see is sensational and definitely brings a new depth the story. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show off a spectacular eye for storytelling. The way backgrounds are utilised is fantastic as they really expand the moments and bring us a nice size and scope to the book. I am also pretty darn impressed by the colour work here as well. There are both bold and subtle moments that really pop because of how colour is used and it really makes a difference in how we see things.
A supernatural Charlie’s Angels style thriller where a trio of women from the allied nations are going after the Nazi’s and their new secret weapon, how can you go wrong with that? You can’t and this is the perfect example why that is. With strong characterisation, great pacing and solid story & plot advancement alongside some seriously good interiors are why I love reading and reviewing Evoluzione Publishing’s books.
