After the amount of fun I had with the first issue I had to come back to see what was going to happen next. I’m going to call it that Ryan is a certain kind of mad genius whose warped sense of humour and unique personality make for some the entertaining reading. There were so many insane and utterly off the wall laugh out loud moments throughout this issue that I’d have to go page by page to recount them all, which by the way I won’t do because you have to go pick this up for yourself!
Okay so Jon Bob and Donnie have survived, so far, and made their way to the road after killing the shark. Well at least one of them anyway. This issue follows their adventures after Dr. Lorraine and Kyle pick them up. The dialogue is hysterical, irreverent and downright expletive ridden making you smile, giggle and then fully belly laugh at everything Ryan manages to do here.
I mean Donnie doesn’t have his lower half but has to pee and when he finally does well hello nurse I nearly spit out my water! Once they all realize that there are still sharks in the woods well then we get to see some of the gratuitous shark attacks in action. Also we see Donnie kind of writing in a journal and I gotta say I didn’t know which way to turn with all this I mean a not so zombie, zombie baby, his new pants and love of the Doc all of it as we see it unfold here will drive you crazy!
Since this is Ryan’s baby and he’s talented across the board his interiors are just as fun as the writing. His eye for storytelling is phenomenal and his characters are wonderfully unique individuals. The Grizzly Sharks well they are ferocious and cute at the same time not to mention the aftermath of their snacking is gross and bloody but surprisingly not so over the top gory. Ryan strikes a balance between comedy and horror that few can master.
Everything here this issue leading into the next one may cause uncontrollable laughter, sore facial muscles from smiling and laughing, may cause stomach cramps from said laughter and could leave you with an unbridled happy feeling. Proceed with caution, care and the expectation of one hell of a great ride.
One more thing before you go this is what SYFY wishes their movies were like!
