It’s ten years after the events of the movie and Sebastian’s life is so much different than he would have imagined. Heavily medicated and in a loveless marriage with a son who seems to be some kind of idiot savant when it comes to creating homemade explosives this issue does wonders in showing us how the mighty can fall and then possibly rise again. There really is such great characterization with all of them and the re-emergence of Tyler in the most unexpected and interesting of ways well this is fantastic.
Sebastian’s wife Marla fell in love with him when Tyler was in full swing and it’s that man who got her pregnant all those years ago now that he went to the nuthouse and got his brain back together she’s miserable so as underhanded and sneaky as she possibly could she’s been taking his medication and replacing it with aspirin or sugar so that Tyler will once again come back and her life can be exciting once more.
We see men who are still in that Fight Club lifestyle he started and know who he is and don’t let him pay for things like he’s still the man he once was. From the looks of things he just might fully become him once more before this issue is over. I love that Chuck is able to demonstrate how his life has changed and how the process of getting him back to who he was can be done so easily. The character development here is beyond what one should expect and then Cameron and Dave’s interiors match the changes in his demeanor and mind to go along with the writing in ways that are fresh, innovative and just damn exciting. Rose petals on the page for instance stroke of genius.
Not to mention when she turns over and tells Tyler to deliver her from this bland, boring life and at first it’s Sebastian but once Tyler takes over it’s all visual and well yeah the symbolism on the page representing what they are doing well that makes me wanna that kind of experience with him too! Wow totally dirty and mind numbing yet exciting and provocative oh yeah please and thank you.
Then there’s Dr. Wrong, his psychiatrist who has been up to no good all this time with him. What happens in his office well let’s say that this whole thing just went someplace entirely new and surprising. Mr. Durden is not a man to be trifled with and his power and influence has done nothing but grow behind Sebastian’s back, 50 minutes three times a week over the past ten years he’s been here and what he’s been doing well you need to read this to see for yourself because WOW! Plus there’s a surprise ending I didn’t see coming either and considering everything that led up to this being just as surprising well now I need to know what’s going to happen next. Can Sebastian man up a be the person he needs to be or will Tyler be able to take over and destroy him?
This can do things the movie can’t and in this issue we’re getting a mighty good look at that and boy are you all in for the adventure of a lifetime because if you thought the movie had twists you ain’t seen nothing yet!
