The Doctor is an immortal time traveler who champions the oppressed across time and space.  He travels in his TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space – a time travel machine stuck in the form of a British Police Box from the 1960s), and often in the company of people from Earth – a planet which the Doctor regards as a second home.  Though the Doctor looks like us, cares for us, and fights for us – he is not one of us. As a Gallifreyan Time Lord, when mortally-wounded, he can regenerate into an entirely new body. He has met many ends in his long, adventurous, and dangerous life, and has worn many faces as as a result.  When the fabric of the universe is threatened, when the laws of time, space, and all of reality start to break down... on those dire days, different incarnations of the Doctor can meet.  It should never happen. Not all of them will remember it properly.
But this is one of those days…

Oh my stars are garters!  This is what I love about the Dr. Who franchise as done through Titan Comics.  I mean four Doctors teaming up in an epic eight part story how does it get much better than that?  Well aside from the villain who could be big and bad enough to bring them all together of course.  Guest Stars naturally a slew of folks you never expected to see popping in a few panels then off they go.  Keeping this firmly entrenched throughout the Dr. Who continuity timeline and making it see more epic than it already is.  Oh yeah and a character who we saw die on the show is back, alive and well so yeah there’s that too!

What the guys do here is never enough, and by that I mean why couldn’t this have been one of those oversized double introductory issues?   Naturally they manage to put it all in a regular issue without any kind of trouble but oh my stars and garters do I want more and I want it right now!  Let’s face it these gentlemen know the characters inside and out and the characterisation is stunningly good and how the issue is structured and flows is pretty much impeccably well done.

The interiors are fantastic you don’t even notice that there are so many different hands in the pot here.  The utilisation of layouts on the pages with their angles, perspective and the sheer amount of attention to detail including those in the backgrounds is stellar stuff.  Plus as is custom the likeness of the Doctor to his television actor counterpart is incredibly well done too.

Normally i’m not a fan of the twelfth Doctor but he’s not going anywhere and he’s essential to current continuity and storytelling so it’s all good.  He’s a wackadoodle and well he has his place here as much as the others do.  While I have yet to see Eccleston’s version pop up yet he’s on the cover so i’ll wait with baited breath on his entry to the foray.

These epics never get old and I never get tired of them coming out and it fuels my love for the franchise time and time again.
