After a fraught and dangerous adventure, facing the Weeping Angels in the trenches of World War I, Gabby and the Doctor returned to the present day, and to Gabby’s home in New York City, for a quick check-in with those she loves. Her quiet downtime was interrupted by an interstellar hunt, led by the terrifying Skreemers, who were chasing creatures known as Echoes – sentient beings of living sound. In the process, the sounds of everyday life in New York City were magnified to deafening levels! Together, the Doctor and Gabby defeated the Skreemers and freed the Echoes, bringing peace to the Big Apple... a peace that will be soon broken by Gabby’s biggest adventure yet!
This is my favorite incarnation of the Doctor and it’s no wonder why he was one of the longest running Doctor’s in television. Nick manages to really capture the essence of this Doctor in this series and by pairing him up with a new companion makes it seem like he’s been never been replaced is kind of fun. I wasn’t so thrilled that he’d taken an American on as companion but Gabby has turned into such a lovely character in her own right. Add this to what Elena is able to do through her interior artwork and you’ve got an award winning team bringing this to life.
The way this story is crafted is superb, with the Doctor going off to investigate something local, probably nothing meet ya later kind of introduction to the story. We all know that this means something fun is afoot because anything that piques the Doctor’s curiosity means that an adventure is beginning. Meanwhile it’s up to Gabby to meet with her disgruntled friend Cindy and try to explain everything that’s been happening in her life. Talk about some absolutely incredible characterization by Nick here. He really manages to get us into the heart and essense of the characters here and it’s wonderful.
You have to love the Doctor and the off the cuff way his mind works and as he visits this acution house looking for one thing in particular he somehow manages to find himself wrapped up in something much larger than he bargains for. There’s a woman also interested in finding lot 28 and she well she’s a big rough around the edges, for me she’s kind of butch Whoopi. Once it’s clear that they are after the same thing a team-up should happen of course so they are following an older woman and her faithful maidservant.
There’s a lot of great stuff happening here there’s no way you can predict what’s going to happen and that’s a huge bonus to be reading this. People are never who they seem to be so there’s no real trying to figure them out happening here, by me anyway, so it’s more sit back relax and let it happen and just enjoy!
Who the new character running with the Doctor is and what she really wants as well as a huge surprising ending embody everything about the series that we love. Titan Comics delivers everything we love about the Doctor!
