Crossfire’s team is expected to become the face of the war on crime, the reality of the mission is very different. Mistakes are made and people are hurt, but amid the challenges, great strides are made and the team gels as a tactical unit--beyond the mission things are very different.
Small self-published books are exciting, fresh and showcase some interesting new talent. I think it’s fun to see someone start out and be green and then watch them grow and blossom. Of course in order for that to be fun it has to have that germ about it which says there’s something here worth watching.
So yes this is rough around the edges but the story flows nicely and the concept is a strong one. Andrew does a nice job introducing us to the characters and giving us a sense of who they are why they are there. Now i’m not sure about the EPA, I mean Environmental Protection Agency what do they need a team of superheroes for? If it’s not them then who is the EPA exactly? So that this is a government run team that is being used as the face for the war on crime I get it and I like. Depending on where it goes we’ll see how the team fares under these circumstances.
I like that this is set in Chicago it’s a different setting than we’re used to seeing but has everything from that inner city problem to the docks that provide us with the kind of storytelling where the seedy underbelly like to operate.
That this issue is telling us the story from the beginning, meaning it’s all flashback and not a then and now situation, so we get to see them from before they are able to really function as a team. It’s nice to see the whole making mistakes and having to learn and grow from them going on here. The characterisation is good and the flow of story is structured well and overall this is enjoyable. I think the dialogue between characters was also very strong and helped with the characterisation.
It’s a solid offering that has a lot of potential. You can find it at http://www.indyplanet.us/product/144734/ if you’d like to support the little guys and watch this series reach it’s potential!
