While I’m usually about Greg’s writing I’ll be honest I could stare at the work Nicola is doing all day long and never get bored.  I mean the shading is so beyond impressive that it gives off that three dimensional effect.  Not to mention her use of angles like opening up this issue looking down upon Mister Dunridge on the morgue table.  It’s great though because suddenly while your enrapt with the artwork Greg sneaks in and brings you the story and dialogue in ways that just take this to a whole new level.

The whole post-mortem talk was both fascinating, eerie and accurate plus it caused a few already thought out ideas to be dismissed.  So while we as readers know it has to do with magic and Ro her partner doesn’t and well yeah that has a whole lot going on behind it.  We get clues visually and in wording here that are perfectly done, placed and help move the story forward.  Speaking of her partner, Morgan, i’m sorry but i’m not usually into blondes but Nicola has made this man GQ, Hollywood worthy good looking.

So because the heaviness of the subject matter when the two are talking work when we see Rowan head to Ms. Grey in her classroom yeah that’s some of the cutest stuff around.  The levity and cuteness factor are off the charts and that it belies what the meeting is really all about well that’s just icing on the cake.  That we can get this kind of stuff woven in so quickly and have thoroughly immerse the reader that the good feeling carries on to the car where it gets doused faster than rain in the Amazon puts out a fire damn.  Cause the whole car moment  that was super duper intense for sure.

I’m glad we only get a glimpse of the man sent to Portland as he enters the country.  Well that and a full nude of him was an unexpected treat.  He’s got a hell of a body under those clothes and yeah well with what he’s here to do I guess underrated under those clothes is important.  That haircut though whoo.

The regular cop stuff that happens is all distraction and filler but it gives the reader a chance to see how this should unfold.  No skirting corners or leaving stones unturned do the job by the book and rule out those who should be.  Plus I think on some level it’s just as important to see Rowan go through these motions as much as seeing her do her magic as it keeps her balanced and a whole person.  I also have to kind of admit that while she’s not misleading the investigation away from herself and magic she’s keeping those cards close to the vest well under wraps.  I see how being a cop for her and her coven comes in both incredibly handy and for her can be extremely rewarding.

The ending was kind what I was expecting but not at the same time.  So part of me can’t wants next issue to open one way and the other the other way and yes that is purposefully ambiguous.  I have so much emotion bubbling from the ending and honestly it works perfectly so the reader will demand more right away, or at the very least crave more.  I mean c’mon now how can we not.

After last issue I said this could be the years IT book and in my humble opinion it has already become that and there’s no stopping it now.  This is a mesmerizing display of words and pictures.
