With little to go on, and no backup on the way, Charlotte has convinced Galina and Kody to follow her into the unknown – a meeting with the elusive hacker collective, Erudito.  In this brand new arc, the Assassins come up against an enemy they couldn’t have foreseen, and
Charlotte comes face to face with her past, both in the Animus... and in real life.

Next issue wraps up the first year of this series, hard to believe it’s been a year already, and there’s something I want to share.  I know that this is based off a popular video game series but i’m not a gamer so before I was unfamiliar with it and what Anthony and Conor have done is turn this into one heck of an incredibly interesting, solid and well told book about shadow, see behind the scenes, organizations fighting it out on both a global and timestream scale is a true treat.

This new arc is a great jumping on point if you haven’t been reading this yet.  While I highly encourage you order or pick up the trades because it’s that good it isn’t necessary to enjoy what’s happening here.

Charlotte was destined to be who she is and it wasn’t just because the others found her as her life and her family are explored and expanded further.  With the addition of her Abuela and her activities things begin to take on a much larger scale in this story.  I like this new aspect and this no nonsense woman who seems to be a bit hard edged and somewhat cold being introduced and it raises more than a few questions.  The complexity and involvement the guys have brought to this has been one of those great surprises that I can’t stop coming back to.

The interiors have been exceptional throughout all this as well.  The attention to detail is amazing to see and it’s not just in the characters but the use of backgrounds as well.  The flow of the story through page layouts and panel uses with the angles and perspective really engages the reader.  The action and technology brought to life here by them is amazing to see and the just the way you get this almost authentic real life experience from the characters really gives this and edge.

Charlotte needs her friends now more than ever because her Abuela may not be the person whom she thinks she is.  The safe haven might not be so safe and the three amigos may best be suited to a life on the run striking the Templar’s where and when they least expect it.  Also the truck with their own portable machine yeah that’s another bonus to experiencing the past.  While I love that there’s an organization to turn to in times of crisis i’m not sure it’s a home yet.

This is one of those series that surpasses that which it’s created from.  The complexity and interesting settings we get here make this one where the past and present to come to life in an exciting adventure of life and death.
