      STORY SO FAR:
Decades after the worlds have come apart, Red London is peaceful and thriving under the Maresh Empire. Believing that one day the magic separating the different worlds would come undone, Prince Maxim is searching the land for powerful magicians who can travel between those realms. Frustrated by his son’s negligence of their own kingdom, King Nokil banishes Maxim to Verose, also known as the Blood Coast, to redirect his focus. Upon his arrival, Maxim encounters rough bandits, hoodlums, and worst of all, the unruly soldiers of the royal military. However, his troubles don’t end there, as a ship with a dangerous looking crew has docked at the harbor…

I like the way that this opens because we’ve all dreamed of being or seeing the one who humbles an arrogant member of the Royal family. Okay arrogant is extra special but any Royal really is someone you want to say you’ve “bested” in some way, take Prince William at Eton playing Rugby as a good example. Maxim is one of the more arrogant SOB’s around and I love that about him because he’s going to need to be humbled and while yes Isra is best one suited for that job the two of them seem to have a lot to learn. So the character evolution here is primed and ready to really begin and that is more than a little exciting.

I like the way that this is structured. From the opening to the ending what we see and what we learn is done in such a way that the flow created is extremely easy to enjoy. While I haven’t read the novels that these are taken from I know it isn’t easy to adapt a novel to make sense in such a limited amount of space but since she wrote them who better than Schwab to take on the task? I like how the Pirate Queen arrives to port and how we learn about her, who she is and why she’s so dangerous. This is part of not only the ease of storytelling but the characterisation of Isra and Maxim as well. There is a way that this is told so that it gets under your skin and becomes a part of you and that kind of writing is pretty rare.

I do very much enjoy the interior artwork here. The utilisation of the linework through it’s varying weights creates a very stylised look. That stylisation also creates a fair amount of attention to detail in the characters and the city beyond to really showcase this world. Enrica Eren adds some amazing colours to this too and when the individual magic’s are shown in their varying colours with this level of gradation is simply spectacular stuff. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels showcases an amazing eye for storytelling. The way that backgrounds are utilised expands the story, the moment and shows us a size and scope to the story that is great to see.

This is such a strong story in a way that requires thinking, paying attention and really listening to both what is being said and what isn’t. An uneasy alliance turning into an even more uneasy partnership and what that means for these two characters remains to be seen. I don’t know if this will follow tradition and they become friends, not lovers as she’s a lesbian, who develop that strong connection and bond with one another or if they will remains at arms length which is what I'd prefer.

Welcome to a world where the Royals rule is cemented in one place only while the rest of the realm lives a life that’s harder than most and much more exciting and dangerous than advertised. Enter this world at your own risk but be prepared to not want to leave!

The Lone Ranger #02
Dynamite Entertainment 2018
Written by Mark Russell
Illustrated by Bob Q
Lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou

In the old and lawless West, truth was what a man kept in his word. Justice what he kept in his holster. Join us now in a short trip to yesteryear as the Lone Ranger and Tonto take up the cause of truth and justice and battle an evil cabal of rancher as they attempt to seize the Texas panhandle for themselves.

Dynamite has done some wonderful things with the heroes of yesteryear in a myriad of ways and I loved seeing the whole Lone Ranger/Green Hornet crossover and keeping it all in the family. But this story has me more excited than any of those. Growing up my folks used to pack us up in the family station wagon and we’d go to either New York City of somewhere in Florida and all the while to keep us entertained they’d get these old stories on tape. My dad was partial to the pulp heroes so we got The Shadow and the Green Hornet and yes the Lone Ranger to listen to on those trips. This story brings those memories back to me in a very similar yet different way.

The way the story is structured is fantastic and how Mark manges to make it flow like tumbleweed crossing the winds. Winding and traversing it’s way through the lives of men of greed and power as well as those just trying to make a living. It really feels almost like a modern story where corporate greed overcomes common decency and it causes a kind storm the likes you don’t want to get caught up in. The opening here is sensational for various reasons but mainly because it’s so wrong and preys upon the drunk Indian stereotype but then again Tonto also perpetuates it as well as the part where white folks think they are stupid by acting that way. There is a smartness to his ploy that doesn’t go unnoticed if you know how to look.

All throughout out this book the dialogue is utterly phenomenal to see. You can learn a lot about a man by the way he speaks as well as the words that come out of his mouth. When someone is in like-minded company what he says is more prejudiced and frank when trying to sway others we see scaremongering as a tactic to sway others to their side. Sounds familiar considering what the United States is going through at the moment doesn’t it. So not only are the Lone Ranger and Tonto brought to life beautifully this way but equally and opposite of this coin we those who need to be taken down a few notches also brought to life beautifully.

Bob is such an amazingly talented artist. I love the way he can take this linework and shape it so it creates these beautiful lines that look and feel soft and yet are strong like a spiders web. The attention to detail here is stunning and it doesn’t matter if it’s in their personage or in the backgrounds all of it just brings this to life so fully. I cannot stress enough just how much I think of Bob as an artist and illustrator. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a superb eye for storytelling. The way backgrounds are utilised is perfectly done to expand the moment and bring a real size and scope to the story.

The ingenuity of what happens within this issue thanks to careful planning and misdirection as well as the failed plan are things that are done in a way that feels natural and right. There is some excellent storytelling here and plot twists and turns as well revelations that make this much more personal a story for the Lone Ranger and Tonto. The layers to the story only make me love this even more and who knew the past would be so like the present in too many ways.

       “WHISPERS IN THE NIGHT”
The curious and adventurous relic hunter Remi, and her father, Dawah, lived on the edge of a blade in a constant balance between their secret life of discovery and a hierarchy that disavowed scientific knowledge in any form. Yet, that balance came crashing down in tragedy, as her father was brutally slain by the ruling power, The Akolouth. Now, Remi is left with only the relic left behind by herblate father, a relic foreign to her in every way…

I think the opening is cute and it’s a nice reminder for Remi to life like her father wished she would. Okay maybe not so nomadic but as with as much truth as she can put down regardless of it’s consequences. It does bring us up to speed however with what she has gone through since her father was murdered and she ran from the Clerics in her town. We don’t hear much more about the differences between those who seek discovery and the religion that rules with an iron fist which I wish we’d see more of.

The way that this book is structured and the whole flow that we experience while reading it. There are a few things about the book that still elude my grasp but hopefully that will come as the story continues. So when we pick up Remi in her new life, or that which she is currently living as she doesn’t stay for long periods in one place, there’s another who talks. He is much like that town drunk that nobody really pays any mind to but likes to ramble on about things that go against the grain. However because this is a bar and it’s where Remi works she hears him and is intrigued.

At first it seemed that on her time off Remi was meandering around town. Until you realise what it is she’s actually doing and then things get a little more interesting for me. The only question I have is are notes detail enough about the kinds of metals and materials she’s testing that when she has to relocate will that be enough or will she have to start all over again? Also I have to give out major props for where we see Remi living and the creativeness of it. I like that she is a part of the town, as she works there, but doesn’t live in directly so that affords some distance in case things get weird.

I do rather like the interiors here and how the aliens and alien landscape comes to life. The linework is interesting as there really isn’t a finesse to it but it gets the job done to create the looks and feel that we need to experience the story. The utilisation of the page layouts and the angles and perspective that we see in the panels shows off a nice eye for storytelling. Backgrounds are utilised well and they do a lot to expand the moment or locations nicely. I find the different races among the people here interesting as well or maybe it’s just different between the sexes and either way I like it.

There are a few things that happen in this issue that I wasn’t expecting but make for exciting reading. That they are connected is even better. Also that it would seem that any species that forms a society and spreads out to create communities that trade and share with one another seeming all have a common ancestry theme. The written word as it evolves from it’s earliest for as cave drawings. That was the case with our own race and we use supposition to put that elsewhere and it’s not illogical since we find them all parts of the world.

Cute, interesting and with the whole science versus religion aspect in full effect this is a fun read that is easy to relate to. With excellent characterisation and a solid base plot I recommend this.

The Enterprise is burning, brought down by the united forces of the Klingons and Decepticons. Captain Kirk and Optimus Prime have a plan to strike back, but can they bring their scattered Starfleet crew and Autobots together before Megatron wipes them out? The no-holds-barred Saturday morning mash-up continues!

The way that this story is told is really rather remarkable to me. Optimus Prime has been fighting what seems like an eternal war against Megatron but that war has been silent for some time. Why because Optimus Prime and his Autobots have been trapped underground on Cygnus seven but why and how? Those questions and more will be answered in this issue and I am not giving them away so you’ll have to read it for yourselves.

I do like the way that this is structured. How there are three separate arcs happening simultaneously that will all converge is done very well. Mr. Spock on the surface with Bones and Scotty are attending to Optimus Prime while Kirk, Sulu and M’Ress are underground and under attack by the Autobots. Of course what would this be if there weren’t Klingons who inadvertently find the Decepticons and try to strike up an alliance to rid themselves of Kirk and the Enterprise once and for all. Though I have to admit I like how each one of these segments is playing itself out. Oh yes and let us not forget that Lt. Arex has command of the Enterprise while everyone’s away.

The way the story unfolds and how integral the characterisation is to that is utterly delightful to see. Since Optimus was down for the count and he wanted Scotty and Bones to revive him, much to the delight of Bones, so naturally he had to take charge of going into the mine to see what was what after all that’s essentially who he is. Also really like how Mr. Spock is used here and while seemingly typical it really stretches the limits of what he’s capable of and it’s interesting to see. Meanwhile Commander Kuri of the Klingon Empire and his obsession with destroying Captain Kirk fits naturally into how we saw them playing out in the original series. We can always count on this heated animosity between any Klingon and Kirk being overly dramatic and quite honestly mystifying as if there is no one else in the Federation as hated as Kirk.

The interiors here are sensational to see they really look like the old animation cel’s that were used back in the day. I have some from the Super-Friends and this reminds me of those spot on. Even so there is some very nice attention to detail that we see here. You can’t get away without when dealing with the Transformers and it’s really great to see in these pages. Also the fact that this is exactly the imagery of the Star Trek cartoon when it comes to the crew of the Enterprise is awakening the kid in me again. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a solid eye for storytelling. Heck I am even impressed with the way that backgrounds are utilised here. This is some spectacular interior artwork to recreate something so classic and iconic.

With three issues left in the run time is running out for the Autobots and Kirk and company and if they want to get back to the surface, where the Decepticons and Klingons are attacking then they’d better move fast. This wasn’t something I was looking forward to when it was announced, more of a curiosity really but seeing it done in this classic cartoon animation style has made this one of those can’t miss stories. Seeing is believing folks and I urge you to see what the fuss is all about!

Jook Joint #2

Welcome to the Jook Joint. Where your desires can be fulfilled. Where you will not be judged. Where you can be yourself. A place where disrespect will never be tolerated. And for those who break the rules, voodoo priestess Mahalia calls upon her coven of undead sirens to teach the offenders a lesson. But for the people who come from outside seeking help, Mahalia offers something more personal, whether advice, medicine, or revenge. Heloise comes to her pleading for escape from her husband, Jean-Pierre, who abuses both her and their daughter Giselle. But when Mahalia’s magic makes Jean-Pierre disappear, Heloise is unsure if she’s made the right decision.

On a side note I do like the Trigger Warning page it’s a great service to provide.

So we’re only on issue two so the opening sequence still needs to be rather dramatic, eye catching and something that makes the reader want to move forward. I will also say someone was traumatised by the original Poltergeist film which thankfully is just as “on screen” scary here as well. It certainly does exactly what it should do and so much more. This also leads us into the whole this really is a Mature title as we see the women sans clothing. The subject is pretty violent but as we start to see nudity and sexual situations that kicks things up a few notches.

Speaking of spoiler alert time the fact the violence can be considered hot and lead to crazy good sex well yeah. Of course while I have absolutely never wondered or wanted to see how two women scissor each other there is a sensual and eroticism about how it seen. I do however love Auntie and every single little thing about her mystery and all. The characterisation throughout out this is utterly spectacular and the more I see the more I love what I am seeing and the more I want to see. It just Auntie either because all the characters that we meet here are fleshed equally as well. Which in turn leaves us with characters who we want to see more of after this issue.

I love the flow of the book here is it weaves in and out of the supernatural and the mundane. We do get a lot of great moments as all this information and revelations flow out at us and create more of this mysterious understanding of what is happening, meaning that we have no clue and the more we learn the more questions arise. It is not a bad thing either there are so many things going on and so much to try and take in as it is but Tee really has her hand on the pulse as it were and delightfully guides us through this beautifully.

Oh I am a fan of the interiors here, nudity aside although there is something comforting about how natural it does feel. I love the linework that we see and how well the varying weights are utilised and manipulated to create such attention to detail. Whether that is foreground or backgrounds doesn’t matter it all has this marvellous look and effect that draws the eye in, moves it around and kind of lulls you into this false sense of comfort. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a stellar eye for storytelling. Also the colouring here is spectacular and there nuances in play that you might not notice but they make the experience feel elevated.

I do like seeing that regardless of what year it is and what the rules of the Joint are there will be those who think they are a cut above. Seeing what becomes of them is something else entirely heh but I do like seeing the how and why of what was behind this issues offering. This is enticing in it’s entirety and how it manages to feel like Bull and swift like Deer offering up the illusion of normalcy.

Leo’s having one of *those* days. he’s been ditched by his friends, mugged at knifepoint, and electrocuted. He has something to say about all this, but the only cat prepared to listen is his virtual reality marketing pal, jerry. Ordinarily that wouldn’t be a problem, but jerry’s mental health hasn’t been too hot since his circuits got fried. But hey, what could go wrong?

So following the events of last issue Leo is finally out of the hospital and home. However before we get to that we have talk about the opening here which is what I am coming to expect from this series. This is completely and utterly out there, so much so that you can’t help to admire the sheer audacity that these creators have and not to mention the talent they have to pull it off. It is one of the reasons why I feel that Vault Comics has already made a huge impact on the industry, they’ve got the talent and the wherewithal to know how to let them express their creativity.

When we get to Leo at home waking up from a nightmare, see the opening, where he and Rachel have a small discussion. I really am impressed with Alex’s dialogue throughout this book and how it brings the characters to life. Also I don’t spoilery this is going to be but even without Rachel pointing it out but Leo has a problem and I think it’s manifesting itself in a few ways with Jerry and the bottle. With a needy personality and penchant for addiction alongside a malfunctioning A.I. with no morality problem yeah things are going to be interesting.

Alex creates a fabulous ebb & flow to the book here. From start to finish everything is done in a way that feels as if it’s just Leo going about his day. While not exactly like any slice of life you’ve ever seen before this one is perfectly suited to this book. Also I love and appreciate the kind of tongue in cheek way that Alex looks at how commercialism has and continues to take over the American mindset. While many will see this as far-fetched some of us see things like this actually happening as we speak. Either way it really is something that Alex handles extremely well with this story.

Martin I will say this, you’ve got no excuse for not filling the panels so all this blank background stuff has got to stop. I mean with or without these glasses there should be so much more than just the characters. Don’t just save all the interesting bits for the plethora of two-page spreads. The corporate pages are freakin stellar so I know you have the talent, the skill and the ability to do it. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective show off a nice eye for storytelling. I love what Dee does here with the colouring. From moments of brilliance to the mundane we see everything in these pages and he just finds a way to keep us interested and guessing and that’s the power of colourist par excellence.

I am extremely impressed with the way technology, the future or reality altering experiences are used to make this feel like real world possible. While unlike some franchises who strive to create technology that people want to create this one uses what’s already created and takes that to the next level via The Twilight Zone. That is why this book is so good, based in reality and enhanced by sheer imagination of a darker path taken.

Life is Strange #1
Titan Comics 2018

Mysteriously gifted with the power to rewind time, young photography student Max Caulfield became entangled in the dark secrets of Arcadia Bay. She used her strange new abilities to reconnect with her oldest friend, Chloe Price, and to bring to justice the men who had murdered Chloe’s closest confidante, Rachel Amber. Max’s temporal abilities came at a cost, however, creating a once-in-a-generation hurricane that threatened the town with total destruction, if Max didn’t allow the original timeline--in which Chloe died of a gunshot wound--to play out. In one sequence of events, Max chose to save Chloe’s life, sacrificing Arcadia Bay. And in a multiverse of infinite possibilities, this is one version of what happened next…

I wasn’t sure I wanted to do this one, I have never heard of the game nor have I ever heard anyone mention it. The first couple pages talk the game and feature the games graphics and it made me have reservations that perhaps it go throughout. Thankfully that isn’t the case we have very nice interior artwork here which I will get into later. I enjoy being proven wrong and surprised by how much I enjoy something I hadn’t thought I would. So as I keep saying and yes demonstrating keep your mind open and the possibilities for enjoying great storytelling can be found where you least expect it.

I like the way this is structured and it all starts with the opening. I appreciate that the game was pretty much explained before the story started so folks like me can get a grasp on the idea of the franchise before delving into the book. For me this really starts with a group of friends hanging out around a table chatting away. This is the kind of thing that quite honestly is what I expect to see on Freeform as one of their shows. It is current, hip and has this air about that makes sit up and take notice even if your aren’t sure why. It has that certain feeling about it and with the dialogue you just know this is something you can enjoy, maybe not that classic “It” factor but it has one nonetheless.

I really like the interior artwork here. There is some great attention to detail and the way that we see the linework with it’s softer approach looking so strong in creating what we see is so very well done. Also seeing the graffiti is utterly spectacular and with the designs and colours here this really comes across with such pomp. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective we see in the panels shows off a really nice eye for storytelling. The fact that backgrounds are utilised is nice to see though if you are going to start using them then use them. That bathroom was full of all this interesting stuff so seeing that blank livid or lividus colour is a tad disappointing.

So while the main focus is on Max and Chloe it is nice to see the supporting cast of characters being used and fleshed out like they are. The characterisation here is insanely good and the fact that both Max and Chloe are so layered and complex thanks to everything they’ve been through and in fact are still going through make this so much more dynamic and interesting. Max lacks the one thing she really needs and that’s control or maybe it’s focus I am not sure which or both but honestly she comes across as so insecure that her ability is a liability.

So are they or aren’t they? With girls it’s so hard to tell but either way what we see here and the power of friendship that drives Max is also the driving force behind the story. This is incredibly well told and gorgeously illustrated and one you don’t want to let pass you by!

After the war, many of the Independents who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of the system, far from Alliance control. Out here, people struggled to get by with the most basic technologies, a ship would bring you work, a gun would help you keep it. A captain’s goal was simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.

Some franchises develop that kind of cult following that ensure it will always survive in some way shape or form, this is one those. One of the best things that about the franchise has been the fact that regardless when you read an arc it feels as if you haven’t missed a thing. Each one while goes with all the others is still strong enough to stand on it’s own. With different creators taking on the story they want to tell we get the familiarity of the characters we know and love but new takes, situations and problems to solve.

Greg is solid, the man knows how to write and with each project of his I read I get more and more impressed with his storytelling ability. If this issue as any indication we’re in for one hell of a ride folks and I adore the fact that for this tale we’re getting the entire crew of the Serenity. I was so happy to see Shepard here because of them all he was the most underused and underestimated of the group and I felt like he was never around enough. And while everyone loves Mal it’s really Jayne who has the best personality and lines and Greg understands how to make the most of the characters.

The way the book is structured is extremely well done which comes as no surprise and the way that the book flows is incredible. The way that characters are introduced and how we see the story become firmly planted impresses me. The past always seems to come back to haunt us in some way shape or form and usually when it’s least expected so it shouldn’t be any different for these guys, after all they are being made to be as realistic as possible. Also I like that this is set pretty early on in the crews travels together, by that I mean River and Doc being onboard. So there is still some wonderfully awkward moments that happen which just reinforce the whole stellar characterisation Greg’s doing.

I am on the fence with how I feel about the interior artwork here. While I love the manipulation of the varying weights in the linework there is a lot of blockiness to the faces and Mal’s nose that doesn’t feel right. I do like the attention to detail that we’re seeing and even with some bolder linework doing that which is interesting to see. It has this Giffen feel from his LSH days when he started going downhill it may have that aura to it but Dan’s looks solid. I like that we see some excellent resemblance of the characters to the actors who portrayed them. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off Dan’s great eye for storytelling. The way that backgrounds are utilised could be improved and by that I mean I’d like to see more of them because when we do see them they expand the story every way they are supposed to. Marcelo’s colours really do finish this off beautifully.

There is a solid story, wonderful characterisation and the perfect amount of intrigue to go along with the interpersonal soap style life that they lead. With interiors that go amazingly well with the writing Boom! Keeps this franchise alive and well and constantly on everyone’s tongues.

Alien 3 the Unproduced Screenplay #1

After the deadly events of the film Aliens, the spaceship Sulaco carrying the sleeping bodies of Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop is intercepted by the Union of Progressive Peoples. What the UPP forces don't expect is another deadly passenger that is about to unleash chaos between two governmental titans intent on developing the ultimate Cold War weapon of mass destruction.

Oh my stars and garters this, this is what I wanted to see when Alien 3 came out in theatre’s. The sheer fact that this is already nothing and I mean NOTHING like the film makes me one of the most happy campers around. Now if someone actually would take this script and make it! As happy as I am with what I am seeing here it also makes me sad for what we actually got. I mean the film was alright and it did have an interesting take and place for all this to go down but it never did feel right. That Dark Horse has the rights to the Alien Franchise and have produced a plethora of some of the best Alien stories ever!

The opening here is sensational because honestly I never new there were quadrants or sectors where people were and were not able to be in. So I am guessing that salvager's or pirates cannot be in certain places. Regardless the fact that we see them entering the Sulaco and we see what they do, not to mention being stupid enough to rummage around something they are clueless is where it’s at. I mean the way that this is structured and how we see the turn of events happening is exactly the kind of stuff that creates the tension and excitement that the reader wants, needs and craves to keep going.

The way the whole book is structured is great. We see a completely different story here and I appreciate that greatly and once the Wayland Yutani Corporation gets involved however we all know the score with them. Maybe because we’ve seen so many of them and after the Aliens when Paul Reisers character did what he did yeah they’ve been exposed and their true intentions made clear that surprise element is gone. Still knowing how they are adds a certain amount of intrigue as to how they will go about their business.

The interior artwork here is really good. There is some great attention to detail thanks to the way that the linework is manipulated to create the faces and everything else is strong. I really like the way we are getting to see this come to life and again the tension by what and how it’s shown is invaluable. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a really solid eye for storytelling. I am also a huge fan of the fact that backgrounds are utilised as they are. I know we’re in space but still to see the ships and stations more fully gives us that sense of size and scope that we need. Also by establishing the backgrounds like this we can imagine the whole running for their lives and feeling increasingly enclosed and that makes me shiver.

So we are meeting a whole slew of new characters who are going to be interacting with the small contingent that made it off LV-426. I cannot tell you how excited I am for this to continue. The Alien Franchise from DH is among those that I never miss and this one being what the adaptation of a film that was never made but should have well that’s like icing on the cake the having your cake and eating it too.

In the 1920s, the Harlem Renaissance is in full swing, and only the Sangerye Family can save New York—and the world—from the supernatural forces threatening to destroy humanity. But the once-great family of monster hunters has been torn apart by tragedies and conflicting moral codes. The Sangerye Family must heal the wounds of the past and move beyond their differences… or sit back and watch a force of unimaginable evil ravage the human race.

It would seem this is a new trend hitting us lately having a family business that takes on an element of the supernatural with what’s been passed down from generation to generation. It also happens to be a trend I can wholeheartedly get behind. More so because this family is of colour and who knows if they came over by choice or not but it’s still only the 1920’s but I love the idea of combining the use of herbs and such to create a potion that is delivered through a device that looks more science fiction. Or ahead of it’s time, way ahead of its time really but then again I guess with such classics like Frankenstein it fits right into that world of storytelling beautifully.

For a first issue this is really well done. I would have liked to see the opening happen differently and actually get to see it play out and then what leads to the roof scene. A little too much jumping around too quickly without giving us a proper chance to get excited or horrified by what we see. It almost verges on not enough to pique interest and curiosity. What saves all that is the whole conversation between Blink and Ma Etta as the dialogue is utterly fantastic. Blink is forward thinking, more modern and very much what one would expect leads to the Women’s Suffrage movement. On the opposite end Ma Etta believes in that whole women’s work and men’s work ideology.

The way this book is structured is nicely done. I like the flow of things once we get started and the character and characterisation really start to come alive. There are a number of avenues that are introduced that I look forward to seeing explored and despite my initial reticence by the end of the issue was in hook, line and sinker. Actually I think it got me on page 11 if I am going to be honest because that was something amazing.

The interiors here are pretty interesting to me. I do like that Sanford has this unique style and he’s able to mix the whole 1920’s vibe with the supernatural and science steampunk elements. I think the linework is exceptional and the attention to detail here really makes things pop. I adore the amount of creativity and imagination that’s on display here. The utilisation of the page layouts is outstanding and the way we see angles and perspective in the panels shows an amazing eye for storytelling. That we see backgrounds utilised as they are really helps expand the word, sells the era and gives us a great sense of size and scope of the story.

So while the police are involved and some know of the family and what they do so there’s a kind of working relationship happening is intriguing. I really am looking forward to see how that continues to develop and expand. There is another aspect introduced to the story as well and where that lies has the right amount of intrigue. That we are introduced to a few potential plot points and our main characters and yet there really isn’t a whole lot of direction presented. All in all I am left feeling intrigued by what this series is going to be, it’s nicely done and leaves an impression upon the reader. This fits in nicely with books like Bone Parish or Superstition on SyFy and it’s high time we got more things along these lines.
