Well Anapa is here and he’s ready to get things started. If I can be honest i’m a little disappointed though because he doesn’t seem all that scary to me and that first image of him while the basis for great horror is there that perky nipple is all I see, well that and a not so fully realized demon. Michela’s been so spot on with this series too that just this one thing is throwing me off.
Anapa may be on Earth but that doesn’t mean he’s the big man on campus yet he still needs to prove that he’s a dangerous entity. However after offering the puppets a chance to be by his side and then threatens Anthony well Shawn decides he’s going to show us and Anapa what loyalty looks like. Still what hope do these little guys have at besting this demon? Guess we’ll find out here and in next issue. Though I’m hoping that he’ll be a possible thorn in all their sides for quite some time to come still.
So the story and dialogue and even the monologuing Anapa does is utterly fantastic. I loved seeing him tell them all how he’s been manipulating them, guiding them towards him and how everything that’s happened here has been by his design. I mean really don’t bad guys understand that you don’t go doing that or you’ll find you’ve created an army of those willing to oppose you? Still the kind of confidence that arrogance brings is why we love it when they do that.
I love that there are a number of moments in this issue that stand out as ultra creepy. I mean as if the puppets themselves weren’t enough already but to be in a place with dozens upon dozens of toys and dolls well yeah that’s crazy creepy time. Here also Michela shines as we see so much like, and detail in the puppets, dolls and Anthony that it’s a great time for what’s happening.
When someone returns by Anapa’s side to seek revenge it’s almost a wait is this really going to happen kind of thing. So i’m loving that Shawn’s not afraid to keep things happening in unexpected and shocking ways. He’s proven from the get go he isn’t afraid of killing off anyone and everyone so i’m always surprised when someone doesn’t die these days.
This is where everything from issue one seems to be culminating and with whatever happens next issue the puppets future will be determined. Until then what we get here is just one of those things that is inherently creepy, utterly fun/fascinating and a complete i’m never looking at dolls or stuffed animals the same way again.
This team has done wonders bringing the franchise to a whole new level of greatness with this series.
