Alright kids here’s the crossover you never knew you were waiting for! Seriously I’ll admit that I read this more out of curiosity than anything else but once I was finished with it I was amazed that I hadn’t thought of this before. This is one of those books that will definitely surprise you and even if you aren’t a fan of Vampirella’s well you still enjoy this story immensely! Corinna starts this off with a bang and doesn’t slow down.
The opening we see two people in cloaks running for a door and then attacked by an Alien Xenomorph. One turns out to be a vampire and he does what they do attacks and tries to drain its blood. Only since their blood is acid you know exactly what’s going to happen to that vampire. Wow I have to hand it to Javier here because his interiors are absolutely stunning! The Alien is beautiful and deadly like it should be complete with the spittle drippings.
From that explosive opening we shift gears to a ship approaching Mars Colony One. It isn’t a stretch of the imagination to know that this story takes place a lot farther in the future than any Vampirella story. Seeing her pod open and Vampirella in her classic outfit yeah it’s pretty freakin awesome the implications that bring. The greeting party on Mars is excited that she’s coming and have thought of her only as a myth.
Vampirella is on Mars for a reason though and that’s because they found some tunnels. There’s ancient writing on the walls not to mention there are a slew of dead vampires attached to the walls. Think of this much akin to the second movie in the franchise only vampires were the hosts. Can you imagine the implications of an Alien emerging from a vampire? Talk about some kind of super Alien with all kinds of nasty inside it. Suddenly you understand though why Vampirella was called in for her expertise.
While investigating there’s a noise and you what comes next. All the tension and anxiety involved with the beginning of an Alien story is right here. With the story direction by Corrina and the interior artwork by Javier this is such a fantastic beginning. There’s a perfect amount of horror associated with the original story material from so many years ago that any fan of the movie franchise is going to love this! Oh my goodness this really is some serious deja vu but it’s also gosh darn hella interesting.
We get a very good interesting cast of characters including Vampirella. We know not everyone is going to live but what’s it going to take to kill a vampire as old and strong as Vampirella? Can she be the birth of a new race of Alien Xenomorphs or will those trapped in the these catacombs be able to stop what’s coming? All I can say is that this story will surprise the heck out of you and thrill you all at the same time.
You’ll never have imagined this story could take place but after you read this first issue you’ll wonder how it hasn’t been told before now.
