PORTLAND, OR., April 17, 2019 — The tale of Ghost Hog by Joey Weiser (Mermin), coming to bookstores May 7th, deftly navigates loss, vengeance, and acceptance.
Truff is the ghost of a young boar, fueled by fury towards the hunter who shot her down. She has a lot to learn about her new afterlife, and thankfully the forest spirits Claude and Stanley are there to guide her! However, they soon find that her parents, along with their fellow animal villagers, have been kidnapped by the malicious mountain demon Mava! Truff wants to help, but… the hunter is finally within her grasp, and if she lets him go, she may never get her revenge! Is vengeance all that being a ghost is good for? Or is there something stronger keeping this little pig tethered to the living world?
Advance praise for Ghost Hog
“Weiser’s graphic novel, with its lively artwork reminiscent of Sunday comic strips, renders the complex themes both entertaining and understandable.” - Kirkus Reviews
“Ghost Hog is a powerful, high-adventure exploration of being haunted by the defining choices and mistakes we’ve made—and about forgiveness found in the gray areas of family, justice, and fairness. Like all of Weiser’s work, it’s brought to life by a fantastic, distinct, empathetic cast of characters.” - Nate Powell, Ignatz and Eisner Award-winning creator of Swallow Me Whole
In December, Oni Press announced Ghost Hog as the 2019 Free Comic Book Day Silver Offering, which will feature two all-new stories about Truff, and is available at participating comic shops on May 5, 2019!
Joey Weiser will be in attendance at TCAF, May 11-12th. He will also be celebrating the release of the Ghost Hog original graphic novel with a signing at Avid Bookshop (493 Prince Ave, Athens, GA) on Saturday, May 18th, 6:30-7:30pm.
