Today, we thought we'd celebrate the career of Warren Ellis by telling you about our four books and a movie about his work! First of all, we have the documentary movie Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts, directed by Patrick Meaney. You can watch the complete movie for free on YouTube, and if you like it, you can buy a copy here. The movie runs 78 minutes. Find our more on the movie's official page or itsFacebook page. Voyage in Noise: Warren Ellis and the Demise of Western Civilization, by Kevin Thurman and Julian Darius, examines Ellis’s body of work. The book explores (among other topics) how his early work for Marvel Comics prefigures the concerns of his later work, how his super-heroes respond to comics history, his use of religion, his use of violence, his fascination with lizards (and what they reveal about the human condition), and how his characters often use anger as a stimulus for revolutionary social action, in defiance of the West’s 21st-century malaise. Topical interviews with Ellis complement several essays, expanding the reader’s understanding of the themes in Ellis’s work. The book runs 168 pages. It's available in print and on Kindle. (Just a reminder: you don’t need a Kindle device to read Kindle-formatted books; you can download a free Kindle reader for most computers, phones, and tablets.) Find out more on the book’s official page or its Facebook page. Keeping the World Strange: A Planetary Guide, edited by Cody Walker, excavates the landmark series, as well as future studies, revisionism, decompression, whether the characters are proactive or reactive, and other topics. This book offers an archaeology of the archaeologists, and its essays allow us to see the snowflake-like structure of the series from new angles. Planetary lives and grows in these pages. The book runs 180 pages and is available in print and on Kindle. Find out more on the book’s official page or its Facebook page. Shot in the Face: A Savage Journey to the Heart of Transmetropolitan, edited by Chad Nevett, explores the landmark series from multiple points of view. It also includes interviews with Transmetropolitan co-creators Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson. The book runs 164 pages and is available in print and on Kindle. Find out more on the book's official page or its Facebook page. In 2010 and 2011, legendary comic-book creator Warren Ellis sat down over several days to film career-spanning interviews for the documentary film Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts. In these extensive interviews, Ellis discusses his life, his work, and his thoughts. He looks back over how his career has evolved, describes his writing process, explores the themes that fascinate him, and details the role technology has played in his work (and in the development of his famous online persona). Only a small fraction of this material made it into the film. This book is a record of these historic interviews, as well as a fascinating portrait of one of comics’ greatest writers.
Warren Ellis: The Captured Ghosts Interviews runs 160 pages. It's available in print and on Kindle. Find our more on the book's official page. Thanks for your support of Sequart's work! Goliath Girls continues with the all-new issue #2 debuting on the same day in both English and Japanese. Goliath Girls is a story about hope during wartime and the power of sisterhood. The fate of the world lies in the hands of three teenage girls – Zelda, Eunice, and Juliet – and their pet kaiju Ginger Spice. Join them as they fight to not only save humans from gargantuan kaiju known as “goliaths,” but also to save goliaths from humans. In issue #2, the Goliath Girls must battle a giant space ape and face further trouble (romantically, parentally and otherwise). And with the same day Japan release, we are erasing the boundaries of comics distribution to bring comic book readers across the world together.” In the world of Goliath Girls, monsters will rise, cities will fall...but best friends are forever! Zelda, Eunice, and Juliet are three best friends: orphans of the Kaiju Generation, and adoptive mothers to their own baby Goliath!
