The Most Outrageous Band in the Universe hit the road
this November with an Anthology Series

San Diego (July 21, 2017)— Hasbro’s Jem and the Holograms may be currently out touring with the “Infinite” crossover mini-series, but they’re already plotting their next move with the just-announced Jem and the Holograms: Dimensions.

This new series, from IDW Publishing, will be an anthology comic set in Jem’s world, and will bring in a rotating roster of talent into the mix, as well as some Jem mainstays, to tell new adventures, with two self-contained stories per issue.

The debut issue sees writer Kate Leth (Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat!) and artist Tana Ford(Silk) jamming on a Dungeons and Dragonsgame night where Jerrica plays the role of Dungeon Master and even Synergy joins the fun! Just as exciting, Sophie Campbell returns to the world of Jem, writing and illustrating a story about the Misfits on a ski trip gone south when Pizzazz’s cat is on the loose!

Sarah Gaydos, IDW Group Editor says, “Sophie, along with series regular writer Kelly Thompson, took the classic Jem and the Holograms concept, and reimagined it for a new generation of Jem fans. Now, with Dimensions, the floodgates have been opened for creators new to Jem to come play in Kelly and Sophie’s arena for an all-star jam session.”

Jem fans can rest assured that Thompson won’t be going far, though, and can anticipate her return to the series before you can say “Showtime, Synergy!”

Issue one kicks off in November with main cover art by Tana Ford and variant covers by Jem art team founding members Sophie Campbell and M. Victoria Robado, plus Eisner-nominee Derek Charm(Star Wars Adventures)!

Black Crown - The Ruling Class
Tini Howard, Gilbert Hernadez, and more have taken over
some prime real estate in Shelly Bond’s new curated IDW imprint.

San Diego, CA (July 21, 2017) – Situated at the cross street of Great Yarn and Canon, the Black Crown Pub anchors a peculiar street where characters commingle and corrupt.  As previously announced, notorious editor Shelly Bond has opened up shop at IDW Publishing and is hurtling towards the launch of her creator-owned imprint, Black Crown. Peter Milligan (Britannia, Shade, the Changing Man) and Tess Fowler (Rat Queens), whose KID LOBOTOMY will be Black Crown’s debut title in October, now welcome some rambunctious new residents to the neighborhood.

Come December, writer Tini Howard (The Skeptics) and Gilbert Hernandez (Love and Rockets) will combine their talents on a 6-issue miniseries with more attitude than you can shake a sword or a game controller at in ASSASSINISTAS. Octavia is an ex-hitwoman who comes out of retirement to pay for her son's college tuition -- and, with any luck, rescue the kidnapped child of one of her former bounty-hunting partners. Octavia recruits her reluctant son Dominic and his boyfriend Taylor to become the next generation of ASSASSINISTAS.

Then in January, the British invasion is back in full force with PUNKS NOT DEAD, co-created by novelist David Barnett (Calling Major Tom, Gideon Smith series) and artist Martin Simmonds (Death Sentence). Fergie is a lonely, bullied teenager raised by a single mom who unexpectedly finds himself in search of the dad he never knew.  But Fergie won’t be traveling alone.  For some reason a strange branch of MI5 is hot on Fergie's trail. Could it be the ghost of Sex Pistol Sid Vicious who becomes Fergie's ethereal companion and unlikely father figure? Bound to Fergie for reasons unknown, is Sid in search of redemption himself or out to prove that punk is alive and well 40 years later?

Right on the heels of KID LOBOTOMY is the BLACK CROWN QUARTERLY, a 48-page compendium of all things comics, culture, and cool. It features a wraparound cover and a regular 10-page lead story set in the Black Crown Pub by Rob Davis (The Motherless Oven). Other features include a two-sided pull-out poster with a view of the street and Frank Quitely's KID LOBOTOMY #1 B-cover, music connections via CUD: Rich and Strange and Swell Maps, Canonball Comics, an exquisite corpse, and much more.

For those attending Comic-Con International in San Diego, you can swing by the IDW Publishing booth #2743 and pick up the Black Crown preview book now, a Black Crown enamel pin, or a Black Crown button.

The Coalition® and IDW Publishing partner to bring
the action-packed video game series back to comics

San Diego, CA (July 21, 2017) – Following last year’s launch of the critically-acclaimed Gears of War 4, the fan-favorite Gears of War franchise is marking its return to graphic novels in 2018.  Set on the fictional planet of Sera, the Gears of War series charts the story of humanity’s struggle against fearsome and brutal adversaries through a captivating tale of hope, comradery, and survival.

“We are thrilled to be working with IDW Publishing to expand the Gears of War universe through comics," says Rod Fergusson, Studio Head at The Coalition, developers of the Gears of War franchise. "The rich world and characters that millions of gamers have come to cherish is in very capable hands."

Partnering with The Coalition, IDW Publishing has enlisted the talents of writer Kurtis Wiebe (Rat Queens) to tell new stories inspired by the world-famous games.

"I'm thrilled to be part of this new adaptation with IDW,” said Wiebe. “With the release of Gears of War 4, fans experienced all the classic callbacks to the brutal, over-the-top action and tone they were used to but there was a new dynamic created with the younger generation of heroes in JD, Kait, and Del. That's the same experience I want for the comic readers. Something that feels familiar but fresh through new, as-of-yet unexplored regions and stories of the Gears of Waruniverse."

In addition to the news series, IDW Publishing will also re-release the classic Gears of War comics catalog, previously published by WildStorm, allowing fans to revisit and collect the series or discover them for the first time.

Your rendezvous with death kicks off in January 2018 when Gears of War #1 emerges onto the comic book landscape.

Hip-Hop Megastars Rae Sremmurd Team with Valiant Entertainment for SHADOWMAN/RAE SREMMURD #1 – Coming in October!

7/17/2017

Picture
Revealed today at Billboard in advance of Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA, Valiant Entertainment is proud to announce SHADOWMAN/RAE SREMMURD #1 – a standalone comics crossover event bringing the multi-platinum hip-hop superstars behind the #1 hit “Black Beatles” into the Valiant Universe for an unforgettable showdown at the crossroads of life and death!

Written by rising star Eliot Rahal (BLOODSHOT'S DAY OFF) with fully painted artwork by renowned artist Renato Guedes (Wolverine), Valiant’s supernatural superhero icon collides with two of the most influential artists in hip-hop today as Shadowman and Rae Sremmurd come face-to-face to forge a new legend of fame, fortune, and magic…

“Comic books are a form of entertainment. I get to make all the sounds and effects in my head. It’s just like you use your imagination – you go through the pictures and the pictures are always awesome. It’s like an escape from reality,” said Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jxmmi. “Valiant – they have really good storylines. The art is always on point. I never know what to expect. X-O Manowar is one of my favorites. The Delinquents is cool. Bloodshot is fucking awesome. I love Valiant.

“Shadowman is crazy,” he added. “It has a lot of twists and turns. It keeps me involved and interested. I can’t even take my eyes off of Shadowman when I read it. I have to finish the book.”

Before they were dominating the music charts and selling out stages worldwide, Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee were just a pair of talented, but otherwise ordinary, brothers…until a twist of fate delivered them fame and wealth beyond their wildest imaginations. Now, years later as hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd, the brothers are bound for New Orleans…and an otherworldly encounter with the supernatural guardian called Shadowman, the lone line of defense between our world and the Deadside that lies beyond…

“Valiant has a long history of massive, real-world guest stars. Shadowman’s classic appearance alongside Aerosmith, for instance, was a defining moment in the history of Valiant, and we’ve been waiting to find the right partnership to bring that legacy into the modern day,” said Valiant CEO & Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani. “Rae Sremmurd are huge comic books fans, and everyone here at Valiant is a huge fan of their music. The combination of their talents, along with those of Eliot Rahal and Renato Guedes – two creators that we’re very excited about – feels like a project that will take fans and readers by surprise. And we owe a huge thanks to Vinny Kumar and Empire for helping put this together.”

Since the debut of their first hit single “No Flex Zone” in 2014, Mississippi-based duo Rae Sremmurd – comprised of brothers Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee – have emerged as one of the most successful and influential hip-hop groups of their generation. Their full-length debut, 2015’s SremmLife, was certified platinum and produced collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Young Thug alongside multiple hit singles. The subsequent follow-up, 2016’s SremmLife 2, was an even greater success and became an international, multiplatinum sensation with the hit single “Black Beatles” – produced by Mike WiLL Made It and featuring Gucci Mane – earning the group their first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition to massive radio play and more than 500 million views for the song’s music video on YouTube, “Black Beatles” also became the soundtrack for the viral phenomenon known as the “Mannequin Challenge” and endures as one of the decade’s most successful crossover hits from a new artist. To date, Rae Sremmurd has been awarded or nominated for some of the most prestigious awards in hip-hop and is currently in the midst of a worldwide tour that will culminate at Lollapalooza in Chicago, IL this August.

From his first appearance in 1992 onward, Shadowman has stood at the forefront of Valiant’s shared superhero universe as one of the publisher’s most perpetually popular and demanded characters. With sales of more than 5.5 million in comics and graphic novels, Shadowman was also the basis of a blockbuster video game franchise from Acclaim Entertainment and, most recently, it was announced that Oscar nominee Reginald Hudlin (Marshall) would direct the upcoming Shadowman feature film from a script by screenwriters Adam Simon (Salem) and J. Michael Straczynski (Thor, World War Z). In the wake of his appearance in SHADOWMAN/RAE SREMMURD #1, Shadowman will return to the Valiant Universe on an ongoing basis with a new monthly series that is set to debut on March 28th, 2018.

All-new series from Dan Panosian launches this October

PORTLAND, OR, 07/17/2017 — Superstar artist Dan Panosian (Daredevil: Back in Black, Conan/Red Sonja) will take on writing as well as art duties on his all-new series SLOTS, coming this October from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment.

You can say this about the life of Stanley Dance: he did it his way.

Unfortunately, his way never took getting old into account. Now, the former boxer is on his last legs, and looking for redemption...but he’ll settle for going down swinging.

SLOTS is a bold new take on Las Vegas, where everything old can become new, and superstition influences how the chips fall.

“Producing this story is really a dream come true for me, and I have Image Comics and Skybound to thank for the experience,” said Panosian. “People throw the term ‘labor of love’ around pretty often, but every aspect of creating SLOTS has been a true joy for me. I’m very happy we can finally announce and share it with everyone.”

SLOTS #1 (Diamond code: AUG170587) arrives in comic book stores Wednesday, October 4th. The final order cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, September 11th.

PORTLAND, OR, 07/11/2017 — Fan-favorite writer Jim Zub (WAYWARD, UncannyAvengers) and artist Djibril Morissette-Phan (All-New Wolverine, Ultimates) will kick off a new story arc in their ongoing tale of twisted fame and failure GLITTERBOMB this September from Image Comics.

Kaydon Klay wants to be famous. She wants it more than anything else she's ever known. The dream is hers for the taking, and all she has to do is embrace the national tragedy that's put her in the spotlight...

“Kaydon Klay's story is rooted in our national obsession with horrifying events—a parade of pain trotted out for the relentless 24-hour news cycle,” said Zub. “It's about the fear of not feeling special, set against the all-seeing spotlight of instant media attention, all wrapped up with a supernatural spin.”

“If you enjoyed our first mini-series, this one's going to get its hooks into you again,” added Zub. “If you didn't read GLITTERBOMB, THE FAME GAME provides a fresh jumping-on point, giving you all the backstory you need and a new focal point character to follow along with.”

GLITTERBOMB: THE FAME GAME #1 Cover A by Morissette-Phan (Diamond code: JUL170704) and Cover B by Rebecca Puebla (Diamond code: JUL170705) will hit stores Wednesday, September 20th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, August 28th.

Select praise for GLITTERBOMB:

“This is a book that should be on everyone’s pull list.” —Impulse Gamer

“Taut, human, creepy s**t. Finding a new angle on the Hollywood meat factory is hard as hell, but this is all kinds of neat.” —Kieron Gillen (The Wicked + the Divine)

“This truthfully honest book provides genuine fear beyond the David Cronenberg-inspired elements by burrowing deep into characters’ psyches to find real-world concerns.” —Newsarama

“What makes GLITTERBOMB work so well is that it’s an engaging, twisted, and sad story even without the tentacled monster.” —Nerdist

“Sharply written and drawn, with deft insight into the trappings of celebrity culture, GLITTERBOMB just might be the ultimate Hollywood horror story.” —Karen Berger (Founder of DC Vertigo)
