This 3-Disc Set From Rickles''70s-Era Sitcom Features All 22 Episodes,
Plus the 2015 CPO SHARKEY Cast Reunion!
For two seasons (1976-1978) and 37 episodes, Don Rickles brought his distinctive brand of comedy to NBC-TV as the star of CPO SHARKEY. As a 24-year naval veteran, Chief Petty Officer Otto Sharkey had seen and heard it all. He was politically incorrect before the term existed, and the recruits he whipped into shape at the San Diego naval training center received most of his shards of wisdom. They may have been hockey pucks, but they were his hockey pucks - ready, willing, and able to endure one verbal Shark attack after another, and CPO SHARKEY: THE COMPLETE SEASON TWO delivers Mr. Warmth's inimitable brand of comedy in spades.
Across 22 guffaw-filled episodes, THE COMPLETE SEASON TWO finds Sharkey trying to cope with two new characters. Raw recruit Apodaca likes to "tawk" and Sharkey can't find the off button, but it's new commanding officer Captain Buckner who makes his life a living hell. They get plenty of in-your-face time during a submarine mission in San Francisco. Buckner cringes at the thought of Sharkey hosting a Japanese CPO, and almost blows a gasket when a child is born in the barracks while crusading Congresswoman Bagley inspects the base. Sharkey is under constant pressure. His girlfriend gives him an ultimatum. He deals with a bout of Russian flu. He trains Rocky-style for a boxing match with a rival Marine. Sharkey gleefully bails out his guys by foiling a crooked used-car salesman. He's earned his gotcha moment - and it sure beats squirming all day...

We know Don Rickles as the "Prince of Put-downs"; the man who receives no residuals from the NHL for all the times he affectionately called another slack-jawed fan a hockey puck. Don's mouth and mind operate at 100 mph in a world where 55 is the norm. And a snappy reply is pointless; he has a finely -honed barb for every attempted comeback. But if you've never seen Don Rickles TV specials, you don't know Jack about Don.
Credit CBS and ABC for offering Rickles the chance to showcase his talents in the two '70s-era TV specials featured in THE DON RICKLES TV SPECIALS: VOLUME 1. "Mr. Warmth" jokes, sings, dances, acts and expands the comedy horizons of the typical variety show and he wears many hats while doing so -- and some rather interesting hairpieces. Amidst all the stingers and zingers, Rickles was never afraid to laugh at himself, and celebrities of the day always loved entering his world. And in these memorable TV classics, home audiences are treated to an incredible line-up of Hollywood royalty who took Don's jabs with aplomb - and dished it out, as well. The legendary Rickles, however, was always in charge. Because, for Don, it'salways better to give than to receive....
The two uncut programs featured on VOLUME 1 include THE MANY SIDES OF DON RICKLES and DON RICKLES: ALIVE AND KICKING; highlights include:
- Don wisecracking with audience members
- Comic sketches with "Brother Gregory," a newlywed couple, and Don as the United Nations Goodwill Ambassador
- Psychology of Humor Roundtable with Don, Harvey Korman, and a doctor,
- psychologist and sociologist discussing Don's particular style of humor
- Guest stars Don Adams, Anne Meara, Johnny Carson, Harvey Korman, Bob Newhart, Carroll O'Connor, Juliet Prowse and Robert Goulet
- New introductions from Don
- Don receives the "TV Land Awards Legend Award" presented by Jimmy Kimmel
