After falling victim to attacks they couldn’t smell coming, Logan and Sabretooth are on the run from adamantium cyborgs imbued with their acute senses, reflexes and razor-sharp claws. However it’s not just Logan and Sabretooth being hunted--their mysterious enemy has already captured Lady Deathstrike and Warpath!
This issue we welcome Domino to the proceedings. I have got to say Greg is doing and incredible job here bringing this together. It’s fast but not too fast and feels like it’s moving at just the right pace. It’s great for the current ADD population and it works for those of us who like to see things play out in a more natural manner. I’m not sure what it says about Lady Deathstrike and Warpath considering they’ve already been captured while Logan and Sabretooth are on the run.
I haven’t been all that thrilled with what Marvel’s been putting out but this one feels a lot different from the norm. Something i’m always on the lookout for. This particular grouping of characters all have things in common sure but it’s not like they would make the likely stars of a shared book. That alone was enough to get me in the door. Greg is pretty freakin amazing at what he does too and the characterisation and the way he’s letting us know about these characters is spectacular work. I mean this version of Logan and Sabretooth is the Odd Couple and it works because beneath the animosity is that grudging respect for each other.
Greg, Jay and Ibraim do some wonderful work on the interiors. I really like Greg and Jay as a team and the work they are putting out is some of their best in a very long time. The emotion that comes off the pages here is marvelous! Also Ibriam is able to seamless work his stuff into the issue without it all feeling as if the works been spit up. The use of page layouts by utilising angles, perspective and backgrounds is extremely well done.
I like how Domino is introduced this issue. She’s one of those who would have probably been able to get away on her own but the timely intervention of the boys certainly worked in her favour, or rather how her powers work. Speaking of how powers work I found it much more interesting to see how Greg went about explaining these things to us as the story unfolded and we saw how skilled they can be. I think the elevated use in how they behave while evading the cyborgs shows a maturity to the characters i’m not used to seeing.
I think the direction this book has been taking has exceeded any and all of my expectations. It’s smartly written & executed with some dynamic interior artwork. Just keep it out of the mishegas that is the Marvel U crossover stuff and let it ride and it’ll be a stand out series for sure!
