This is my first exposure to the Auteur and I’ve got to say Rick has introduced me to this world in an extremely spectacular fashion. The story is incredibly out there and yet completely fascinating and the interior artwork by James and Luigi is vivid, vibrant and rambunctious to the point of mesmerizing.
So we open up the book and these guys who honestly look like clones are in negotiations with this dude who looks a little like Hitler only he puts on a clone nose and if this first page isn’t enough to immediately make you pick up the book you have no imagination because this is just the right kind of weird madness that should draw you so you have to figure out what the hell is going on. It’s pretty brilliantly done in my humble opinion.
It says it’s chapter six but trust me when I say you can jump right on board here, I have and i’m not lost or confused so it’s perfectly new reader friendly. I really do like the artwork here, why have not discovered this before now? The Parrott’s flying are gorgeous and the setting is fabulous the detail here is extremely impressive. The weird lookin dude (Hitler guy) finally starts to pitch a movie idea he wants funded.
Suddenly we flash back 72 hours earlier and this is one of those things you’ll have to read because I cannot properly describe what happens without ruining much of it for you. Suffice it to say that this guy is wandering the desert and it’s one hell of a trip! Heat exhaustion, heat stroke hallucinations you name the goes through it and how he gets home to talk his guy who you have to see to appreciate telling he’s burnt in this town and needs outside backing, see dirty money, well the whole thing is just the kind of odd humor that makes you think. This is not stupid humor thank god and it’s damn interesting. Once you get started you don’t wanna stop because you have that sensation of what am I reading again, don’t care and keep going.
Back to the movie pitch which is going on to these guys when they interrupt because they want the Nubian star of the film to be raped. Women in Prison film that they’d like to see be a concentration camp, okay so yes Germans who aside from being obsessed with rape introduce someone they want to be the star. So before this whole Women in Prison Nazi propaganda film filled with gang rape can be sealed -- yes I’m laughing as I type that-- they are all attacked.
From here it just gets even more weird and you have to read this. Bordering on the total absurd but in the most entertaining of ways this series definitely has everything you need to be captivated. Murder, mayhem and off the wall humor all combine to make this a must read!
