Following the destruction of the Super Hive ship Atlantis and her crew find themselves stranded on Earth. A new threat rises to challenge the crew and stop the city from returning to its rightful place. Come with us on this new comic book season of Stargate Atlantis and join the fight to get #BackToPegasus!
I can’t believe it’s been seven years since Stargate Atlantis went off the air, all too abruptly in my humble opinion. Though it really is something wonderful when you see this kind of dedication and passion for a project that no matter the length of time that may have passed come to fruition. I rather liked the Atlantis show and it’s crew had a great mix of characters to work with so seeing them again here in basically what season six is a much welcome thing.
I have to say with the Atlantis crew on Earth there are a lot of people to be keeping track of and yet the guys here have absolutely no problem with characterization. Everyone is easily identifiable and the dialogue is so well matched to each character it’s really quite a joy to see. It really does make this seem like it’s hot on the heels of the canceled show. Even better is that the first the first few pages are a recap of what’s happened thus far to get them where they are. So if you need that little refresher course it’s here. Also for someone who may be new to the series it’s a great way to get them involved and up to date to easily follow the story.
I have to say it is absolutely incredible to see Greg working in comics again. He’s no stranger to working with a large cast of characters, Legion fans know this, and I would say that he’s gotten even better now. Sure this is more a style where you want the characters to more closely resemble the real life cast but i’m really impressed with what i’m seeing here. The clean crisp linework and the attention to detail are great. His eye for storytelling through page and panel usage is stronger than ever and even the backgrounds are used to maximise effect on the page.
Alright so the real question remains not IF the crew will return but when will they return home? There’s an old familiar threat making major moves and the universe they left behind is in more danger than ever before. Can the team find a chair of the Ancients to replace the one destroyed on Earth? More importantly can the SGA team get out from under the SGC team and go back to doing things the way they are used to?
An exciting and explosive first issue that will thrill longtime fans and will introduce a new generation to some of the best science fiction storytelling around! Look out Star Trek and Star Wars the Stargate Atlantis crew is back and quite frankly better than ever before!
