Adrift in the Andromeda galaxy and without any dilithium left to power its warp core, the Enterprise was rescued by EURYDICE, a deep-space salvage pilot. After towing the Enterprise to THE DARK MARKET, a galactic trading center, Eurydice promptly betrayed Captain Kirk and his away team, turning them over to a nefarious alien intelligence known as THE SYNDICATE…
Mike is able to really bring us the feel of the original series here with the updated crew and Universe they inhabit. That this three issue Eurydice story has introduced us a whole new quadrant and different species we’ve never seen is fantastic and Tony and Davide are able to bring them to life beautifully. This has been everything the franchise has been about, exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and civilizations and going where no person has gone before. I cannot say how highly I hold this book in regard to what they do here.
We knew from the beginning that Eurydice was going to sell them out that was kind of obvious but the reason behind it and her reaction after the fact well they speak volumes about her character. I hope this isn’t the last we’ll see of Eurydice because there’s potential there for her to be an important player in this universe and her knowledge of technology that exists here but not on Earth well that in itself would set her up for life should she decide that part of the galaxy would fit for her.
Also the interiors here cannot be beat I mean when you see the Enterprise being held in place it truly a magnificent sight to behold. Then of course the likeness to the actors makes this so damn fun to read.
So Kirk is separated from the rest of the landing crew, who have been sold for profit leaving him alone with the Syndicate. His message to Sulu is good stuff and while he, Sulu, knew what it was it nice to see Chekov so unsure. Meanwhile after inquiring about his crew we see them and they have a new owner who bought all five of the remaining away party. This is the kind of stuff that could give you nightmares what with a centipede body and bat face and eyes like a spiders, meaning many and this is just one of those things that will stay with you the rest of your life.
So to learn how Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise get out of this mess and the role that Eurydice plays in it you’ll have to read the issue. This is what the franchise represents from old to next to now this is what exploration and self discovery is in my eyes and it’s being done with great respect and originality and you can’t ask for more.
