For too long now Wonder Woman’s history has changed, evolved and become something new and it’s been hard to find a common thread among them. Greg’s here and he’s taking on the task of “fixing” everything that’s come before so that she can once again have a streamlined origin. The two big ones here were being born from clay to having Zeus as a father and it seems that we’ll have some version of the latter as it’s been leaked she has a brother so unless there’s a way to combine the two we’ll see what he has in store.
I do like that we see her questioning her role in life. It leads up to a point where when having that existential crisis she finds her history is too convoluted, in a way that makes sense to me at least. Using her lasso of truth on herself to figure out who she is, is leading us to seeing her origin become streamlined and not so out there. We’ve seen her take on so many roles since her inception that a little part of each one is who she is and in all honesty it’s a matter of reconciling all that.
Greg’s an incredible writer and if anyone can take the last three approaches and merge them with Moulton’s original concept it’s him. I think the most important part in getting her back to prominence and with an origin and a mission that works is something that’s long overdue, yes she’s a warrior, princess and ambassador those are all parts of her so is being a superhero, goddess and daughter so it’ll be fun to watch how all her parts create the whole.
So how can Diana figure out the truth without the Gods of Olympus? She really can’t at least not on her own and not quickly but the real problem is what happens with that this issue. Is her berguoning realization going to interfere with her position among them. Oh and please I do so sincerely hope Donna Troy is brought into this somehow and her origin, which is closely tied to Diana’s history is made clear as well. Forget Cassie she’s more minor than major player in my opinion and she doesn’t rely on Diana for her story.
Love the new outfit we see here. It’s a great melding of old and current to create a visually stunning look that suits her extremely well. Wouldn’t have minded it being one stripe longer but sex sells right. Super impressed with the work laid down by Matthew and Liam here and they do some wonderful things with the Amazon Princess. Both have a keen eye for storytelling and using pages and panels for flow.
Could this actually up DC’s interest factor, yeah so far these aren’t the characters from before/during Crisis On Infinite Earths when all the mishegas began but it’s a potentially great story and looks to be incredibly interesting.
