Last issue Kimber recognized the girl from the benefit that but Aja in the hospital and a massive food fight broke out between the Misfits and the Holograms. While the food fight was spontaneous and unplanned has the Misfits realized what would happen I’m sure Pizazz would’ve made sure it happened anyway. But since the Holograms signed a contract that forbade this kind of behavior they have been ejected from the competition. Though to be honest I think Pizazz wants to battle the Holograms an win it’s much more satisfying than having your biggest competition thrown out.
Pizazz may be the one we all love to hate but the characterization we get on her this issue shows a little more depth to her that well softens her a tad. No she doesn’t want to know if Clash was behind that attempt and wants her to make sure that it says far away from them. Still I liked that she wanted to battle the band on stage where it counts that speaks volumes to me. Though threatening Stormer if she sees Kimber socially again yeah that wasn’t cool. Still it’s got this new twist on Romeo & Juliet thing going on and I do like that.
Ah Rio he really likes Jerrica and thinks Jem is a total user and tool and it’s causing friction between them since she doesn’t feel she can tell him the truth. It’s kind of cute really and when she finally realizes he’s a good guy and can trust him well we’ll see if they can survive that secret’s reveal. So all this sisterly love and understanding yeah it’s kind of sickeningly sweet but to have that kind of support system is amazing and it’s so well portrayed.
So the VS. Competition is coming to a close and as the Misfits take to the stage for the last time of the night Jem and the Holograms are putting a plan into action. So close to the stage and having their music heard by those at the competition including luring the Misfit’s off stage to investigate. What they see well it may not have been Jerrica’s best idea to date but they managed to do a couple things here and you’ll have to see it to understand it but upstaging and simultaneously pissing off the Misfits might not be the smartest move but in the heat of the moment it sounded like a good idea.
While this is the classic show the Misfits vs. Jem and the Holograms after this introductory arc I hope we’ll see more to the series than just that. In the meantime i’m going to enjoy the heck out of this rivalry as we see it escalating to out of control proportions.
The interior artwork here is incredibly fun, expressive and just uplifting. Plus we get to see so much imagination in the clothes and hairstyles that continue to change. I can guess that Synergy is responsible for the looks, hair and all that for the Holograms but seeing all the changes in the Misftis as well is huge fun. They all have there own unique style that works within the groups and it’s just nice that we see this expression. Plus with all the body types of the girls we see a true representation of the female form as seen in the real world.
Before the Spice Girls ruled the world there was Jem and the Holograms and it’s great to see these girls once again in the spotlight with a hip new upgrade for the times we live in.
