I think part of the dissatisfaction with the whole convergence is that while we are revisiting beloved books for days gone by we missed a whole year where the characters have gone through things we haven’t seen so they aren’t exactly the same as we remember them. Close but no cigar as the saying goes. I really went out of my way to get a to comic shoppe to pick this one up because I loved Kole and seeing that she’s in this I had to have it. Remember all these books are Pre-Crisis so skies the limit.
Nostalgia goes a long way and with Marv once again at the helm of this book had me hooked opening up and seeing Donna Troy, Wonder Girl once again in that red jumpsuit. I do have to say that the whole Tangent Universe is getting old to me we’ve seen way too many teams off that world fighting for survival. Couldn’t we have seen another group of Titans from another timeline? Okay griping aside its still great to see this team in action. Also thankfully there isn’t a lot of pre-dome coming down happening here because I find that a waste of space.
We’re back to seeing Dick and Kory arguing over her Tamarrian nature where violence is part of her but we see that he’s fretting for naught because she tempers herself here even if she doesn’t want to. Though I find it more interesting that Cyborg is the most affected by all this since he’s is a cyborg and his parts aren’t readily available in Gotham City, now why is it all our revisited books happen in Gotham seems kind of ridiculous to me but I guess that is from order on high.
God this was like going back in time to my teenage years. Dick brooding not knowing how to deal with his emotions, Donna everyone’s go to girl while hiding her own insecurities from everyone and even down to working as a team even if they haven’t been powered up for a year. I knew I missed this team but never realized how much till reading this issue. Then there’s Kole, poor sweet Kole who didn’t get to live very long before the Crisis and immediately she became one of those characters I instantly loved and wanted more of. Plus her and Joey’s relationship here isn’t tight but she loves him and he doesn’t reciprocate so Marv has brought back all the drama and tension that made this so successful in it’s original run.
Nicola on the Titans with Marv is like a dream come true as well. Her work here with Marc and Jeromy really is a treat and well aside from George of Phil this is the best i’ve seen them look.
Forget this convergence nonsense already I want this team back let’s have stories focusing on the team like an untold tales kind of stuff. While you can never quite recapture exactly what was this comes damn close and I want more than a two fer.
