After leading them to where Gina has been taken Arhian was captured. We open with her waking up their captive picking up right where issue two left off.
There’s something about this that I really like and that’s the way Arhian is represented. Yes she’s in a see thru nightie and her ample bosom is there for all to see but she’s not ashamed or embarrassed instead it’s just something that is. She’s a strong woman who while being an attractive beauty is also a fierce warrior and her own survival comes first over any kind of modesty. So while yes it’s very sophomoric in a sense it’s also very natural not only for the world she lives in but with the storyline that this is.
I also like that while she’s trying to find a weapon and Gina she realizes that much to her chagrin her own feminine wiles are just as effective at disarming and taking out guards along the way. The way the story plays out is nicely done as things won’t always go the way of our heroine even though we’d like them to. Even with the girls escaping she and Gina lead their pursuers in a different direction though to be honest it makes you wonder if those girls are going to be able to survive this wood on their own and make to someplace safe or if they’ll just end up caught again.
Well since it was much too soon for Arhian to have found Gina that we should have known the story was going to get much interesting. This issue showcases that extremely well as she should’ve trusted her initial instincts prove. Though out of the fire and into the frying pan may be accurate it’s altogether clear who’s in the fire now. Heh never count this woman out she’s got more lives than a cat and is ten times as deadly. I do like the twist it was interesting to see that happen and surprising when it was explained.
I think the more we learn about this world through these characters and the reveals that happen the more messed up and fun it becomes to explore. I do wonder one thing after a certain amount of time why is Ahrian still wearing that blasted torn up nightie? I mean c’mon we get it but enough is enough and it would’ve been more believable to see her take some dead men’s clothing to cover up with. The woods and what she’s doing yeah she’d want to cover up.
Other than the whole is she or isn’t she wearing something so her breasts are pretty much everywhere the interiors are great. The way the armour, animals and the men are portrayed are very nice to see (hint naked women = naked men). The flow of the story through it’s pages and panels are well conceived and the use of backgrounds helps to fill out the world around them helping with seeing mood, tone, feel and larger picture.
Well with all the events that transpired this issue it’s going to be interesting to see what Ahrian is going to do next. Fleeing the Dark Lord’s castle after freeing his virgin sacrifices well you know that isn’t going to sit well, more so after she hit over the head. So we’ve got two more issues to see how all this plays out and Ahrian’s fate. This is a great story set in an interesting world. Part Dungeons & Dragons mixed with parts Medieval Times with a smattering of life on the high seas it doesn’t get much more diverse than that.
