What perfect timing that this book is released the same week Sharknado III Oh Hell No is aired on SyFy. With having watched that movie just yesterday reading this issue was all sorts of spot on fun! As ridiculous as the movie is this book took that to a different level and showcases that there is so much more to these kids than most realize. Even under the most insane circumstances Betty and Veronica manage to steal the show and plenty of characters end up as shark food so overall i’d much rather see this made into an animated feature than watch Sharknado again! Also that this is pretty much in line with the third installment and they’ve already seen two previous massive sharknado attacks made it that much more fun in my opinion!
For those not in the know Dan Parent is amazing and if you look at the interiors you’ll find humorous little gems that make this even more fun! I can’t imagine how much fun he had illustrating this issue but I can feel the love he had for some scenes shine through!
Anthony and Dan work very well together here and I can only imagine the conversations they had in deciding who was killed and the action sequences involving certain characters. I mean the entire opening in Washington DC was beautifully done. With Betty and Veronica managing to not only survive the Sharknado but to actually come out of it in such a way as they did becoming these warrior women killing sharks and seeking revenge against them and changing the way they feel about the sharks was utterly fantastic.
Back in Riverdale Cheryl is having a pre-summer dance party on her boat and the whole gang is invited. With Betty and Veronica on their way home to warn them and Dilton keeping an eye on his computer models it’s clear that the gang is about to experience first hand the power of a Sharknado. First however they have to deal with sharks in the water coming after them!
With hundreds of sharks in the waters and going after the boat the lifeguard, Sabrina, heads out to lend a magical hand. Poor Sabrina doesn’t seem to fare well in these situations after all it would be too easy with her powers to save them all. This story really is ridiculously fun and Jughead and his hat yeah that’s just a small highlight. While at the school Josie and the Pussycats and the staff of Riverdale High wonder where everyone’s at oh and the band(s) singing the Sharknado theme song yeah that’s pretty epic people. Before Betty and Veronica can get to the school it’s hit by the Sharknado and i’m sorry I smiled, laughed and thoroughly enjoyed what happened here.
Who lives, who dies and who saves the day? You have to read this to find out suffice it to say that only these folks and the Archie gang could make the Sharknado crossover come out better than the original camp movies!
